CLEMATIS 'Ville de Lyon'
Clematis, Late Large-flowered Clematis, Ville de Lyon Clematis
Ville de Lyon clematis is a compact, deciduous woody vine that bears many flowers late in the season. From midsummer to autumn, profuse carmine-red flowers with darker red margins cover these twining vines. This clematis flowers on the current season's growth, so conduct harsh, height-reducing pruning each early spring.
Ville de Lyon clematis grows best in sites with full sun and fertile, well drained soil rich in organic matter. As with most clematis, this selection adds a vertical element to the garden and looks best when trained on a fence, trellis or pergola. Mulch the ground to keep the root zone cool and moist during the heat of summer and be warned the lowermost foliage may scorch in the late summer sun rays.
