CONSOLIDA ajacis 'Exquisite White King'( EXQUISITE SERIES)
This entry has yet to be reviewed and approved by L2G editors.
Exquisite Series larkspur are derived from the annual Mediterranean species Consolida ajacis, and closely resemble the hybrid delphiniums to which they are related. From late spring to midsummer, they bear upright, single or branched spires of double flowers in shades of blue, lavender, rose and white. The spurred blossoms are borne densely on slender, upright, single to branched stems, and pollinated by bees, butterflies and moths. They are accented by bright green, feathery, deeply divided foliage.
Annual larkspur are perfect for mixed borders or cottage gardens, and make excellent, long-lasting cut flowers. They grow best in full to part sun and prefer moist, fertile, well-drained garden loam. Seedlings do not transplant well, so the seed is best sown directly in early spring. Removal of spent blossoms may prolong flowering, which usually ceases with the heat of summer. Under favorable conditions, the plants may self-sow in the garden from year to year.
