Botanical Name

CORDYLINE 'Jurred'(FESTIVAL GRASS™) PP14224

Plant Common Name

Cordyline, Festival Grass Cordyline

General Description

This fabulous purple grass-like perennial is all the rage with modern designers. Great form and intense color mean it gets well noticed in any setting. The genus of sword leaf plants (Cordyline) is indigenous to Australia and New Zealand where this and many more of the contemporary hybrids have originated. They are quite similar to the Phormium, offer a more relaxed form and shorter stature. Over time, the original rosette of a plant will branch at the base increasing its overall diameter and expand upon its bold, grassy habit.

Though not grown for its flowers, Festival Grass ™ blooms in midsummer with small pink fragrant blossoms held above the foliage. It is tolerant of a wide variety of soils provided it is not saturated during the growing season. Though drought resistant, it retains best appearance with regular watering and pruning of dead leaves at the base.

Festival Grass™ can be designed into gardens as small groups or large drifts and masses to intensify the color. Insert into a mixed border for an instant makeover. It is well adapted to containers, which allow them to perform in the urban landscape on rooftops and terraces. This tender perennial is particularly attractive when played off lime green or yellow foliaged plants.
