COREOPSIS 'Garnet' PPAF
Coreopsis
This entry has yet to be reviewed and approved by L2G editors.
Cheerful in rosy pink color but robust in the richness of tone, Garnet tickseed flowers heavily for such a low-maintenance plant. An herbaceous perennial selected by Terra Nova Nurseries of Canby, Oregon, 'Citrine' is a mounding cultivar. Its deep coral-rose petals surround a golden dark red disk, attracting butterflies and bees. The bases of petals blush deep red to match the disk. Promptly trim away old flowers to encourage continual flowering across summer and into autumn.
Plant 'Garnet' in a well-draining moist to slightly dry soil that is fertile and not highly alkaline in pH. Capable of enduring drought, water it if both heat and dry soil occur in unison to prevent leaf browning and diminished flowering. This sun-loving perennial is well-suited to perennial borders, containers, or as a massed groundcover in a rockery or foundation bed. Hardy only in cool but mild winter temperatures, it's best as a seasonal container plant or bedding annual in very cold winter regions.
