COREOPSIS 'Pinwheel' PPAF
Coreopsis, Hybrid Tickseed
This hybrid tickseed, ‘Pinwheel,’ is an herbaceous perennial with unique, spectacular bloom. The flowers are daisy-wheeled with petals that are spoon-shaped, rolled into a tube for half their length and open like the bowl of a spoon at their tip, radiating from a large rusty-orange central disc. The combination resembles and pinwheel. Bloom starts in early summer and continues until frost in autumn. By midsummer, the plant is a mound of lacy, bright bluish-green leaves and hundreds of flowers. Butterflies and bees frequent the flowers every chance possible. Deadhead the plant (removed spent flowers) to keep it blooming.
Like most Coreopsis, ‘Pinwheel’ prefers full to part sun and well drained, average soil that is not highly acidic. This butterfly magnet looks stupendous when massed with other sun-loving perennials or ornamental grasses, and is always lovely in meadows.
