COREOPSIS pubescens 'Sunshine Superman'

Image of Coreopsis pubescens 'Sunshine Superman'

Family

Asteraceae

Botanical Name

COREOPSIS pubescens 'Sunshine Superman'

Plant Common Name

Star Coreopsis, Star Tickseed, Sunshine Superman Tickseed

General Description

Star tickseed dwarf selection 'Sunshine Superman' is a very short, upright perennial wildflower native to the dry woods of the southeastern United States. It has yellow daisy-like flowers with jagged petal edges that will attract butterflies non-stop from midsummer to fall. Hairy stems and leaves are a medium green color.

'Sunshine Superman' performs best in well-drained, dry to moist soils in full sun, but is tolerant of heat, humidity and also drought. It does not seem to winter well in USDA zone 5. Soggy soils will cause rot. It would be nice in a meadow garden growing below ornamental grasses and asters, incorporated into the mixed perennial border or grown in containers. Highway medians and roadsides would be made more interesting with this pretty autumn blooming wildflower.
