General Description

Rising high above other summer-flowering perennials, the sturdy-stemmed tall tickseed dazzles with pale yellow daisies. A perennial wildflower from the interior eastern United States, it has branched stems and mid-green leaves that are made up of three linear or lance-shaped leaflets. From summer to autumn, flowers appear, attracting butterflies and bees with eight light yellow petals around a yellow center disc that quickly becomes purplish brown.

Grow tall tickseed in full sun in a well-drained, average to poor soil. Growth is noticeably more lush and considerably taller in fertile ground, but do not allow roots to smother in heavy, soggy soils. This perennial may need staking in windy locales, but typically holds it own when among tall grasses or shrubs in the mixed border. Also it is lovely for a prairie or along country roadsides. The long stems and pretty flowers make a terrific cutflower.
