Family

Asteraceae

Botanical Name

COREOPSIS verticillata 'Golden Gain'

Plant Common Name

Golden Gain Threadleaf Tickseed, Threadleaf Coreopsis, Threadleaf Tickseed

General Description

This threadleaf coreopsis, ‘Golden Gain,’ makes a speading, fine textured clump of stems canopied by large golden flowers that repeat in waves from early summer into fall. The plant is rhizomatous (spreading by underground stems) and one plant becomes a clump in a year or two. It is descended from a species native to the southeastern U.S. North America and has wiry upright stems and very fine, threadlike, medium green leaves divided into three leaflets. Throughout summer, it puts forth many daisies of bright cheerful yellow. Plants will continue blooming into fall if spent flowers are occasionally sheared off. The flowers are highly attractive to bees and butterflies.

Sun-loving, heat-tolerant and hardy, 'Golden Gain' excels in average soil with good drainage, and can succeed in drier, grittier soils, too. In the landscape, this tall cultivar looks superb massed with ornamental grasses, showy stonecrop and colorful daylilies.
