Watch Chain Plant
The common name of this beautiful fine textured succulent from South Africa refers to its moss-like appearance. Its lax stems give rise to ascending branchlets that are hidden under tiny overlapping scale-like leaves. The vivid bright green foliage takes on bronze tints in hot dry conditions. Inconspicuous yellow-green flowers appear between the leaves in summer and at other seasons after watering. Pruning back flower stems will stimulate increased vegetative growth.
Like most succulents, this plant prefers porous granular soil whether grown in a pot or a frost free rock garden. Avoid watering until soil is thoroughly dry, particularly if drainage is less than perfect. Succulent aficionados use this plant to provide fine-textured contrast to the large fleshy leaves of other succulents.
