DAHLIA( DARK ANGEL® SERIES)
Dahlia, Dark Angel® Series Dahlias
The hybrid dahlias in the Dark Angel® Series are compact and produce lots of brightly colored single flowers that shine against dark purple foliage. The uniform plants are vigorous and high-performing. Every cultivar in the series has a name that alludes to an edgy film, such as 'Braveheart', 'Pretty Woman', 'Star Wars', 'Dracula', 'Pulp Fiction' and 'American Pie'.
These warm-season, herbaceous tender perennials grow from bulbous underground tubers. Their dark leaves are compound and have toothed edges. Single-form daisies appear continuously through the summer, as long as growing conditions are favorable, and are attractive to bees and butterflies. Remove the old, spent flowers to encourage continuous flowering.
Dahlias prefer well-drained, fertile soil and full to partial sun. Ideally, night temperatures should be comfortably cool, and days should lack overbearing heat and humidity. Dahlias are cold sensitive. In colder regions, plant after the danger of frost has passed and lift tubers before the ground freezes in autumn. In frost-free zones, they can be planted in fall for continuous winter color. Those grown in the tropics should be grown in the cooler, dry season. This series has small plants that are perfect for containers and space-limited borders.
