DAHLIA( DELICIOUS™ SERIES)
Dahlia, Decorative Dahlia, Delicious Series Dahlias
The hybrid cultivars in the Delicious™ Series are dwarf, mounded and heavy-flowering. Their fully to semi-double flowers come in an array of colors, including bicolors. These free-blooming dahlias were introduced by the Ball Horticultural Company.
These warm-season, herbaceous tender perennials grow from bulbous underground tubers and have rich green compound leaves with toothed margins. The colorful flowers appear continuously and are attractive to bees and butterflies. Remove the old buds from spent flowers to encourage heavier flowering.
Dahlias prefer well-drained, fertile soil and full to partial sun. Ideally, night temperatures should be comfortably cool, and days should lack overbearing humidity. Most hybrids are propagated from divisions or root cuttings to preserve their unique characteristics. In colder regions, plant tubers after the danger of frost has passed. In frost-free zones, they can be planted in fall for continuous winter color. Dahlias are cold sensitive and their tuberous roots should be lifted and overwintered in a cool dry location, where not hardy.
This exceptional dahlia series is ideal for containers and beds. Flowers are also good for cutting and use in bouquets.
