DAHLIA 'Dracula'( DARK ANGEL® SERIES)
Dahlia, Dracula Dahlia
This entry has yet to be reviewed and approved by L2G editors.
The hybrid Dracula dahlia in the Dark Angel® Series produces lots of brightly colored single flowers that shine against its dark purple foliage. The compact, uniform plant is vigorous and high-performing. The 3-inch (9 cm) flowers have eight magenta-fuchsia petals surrounding a dark brown-purple center that displays yellow stamens.
These warm-season, herbaceous tender perennials grow from bulbous underground tubers. Their dark leaves are compound and have toothed edges. Single-form daisies appear continuously through the summer, as long as growing conditions are favorable, and are attractive to bees and butterflies. Remove the old, spent flowers on 'Dracula' to encourage continuous flowering up until the killing frost.
Dahlias prefer well-drained, fertile soil and full to partial sun. Ideally, night temperatures should be comfortably cool, and days should lack overbearing heat and humidity. Dahlias are cold sensitive. In colder regions, plant after the danger of frost has passed and lift tubers before the ground freezes in autumn. In frost-free zones, they can be planted in fall for continuous winter color. Those grown in the tropics should be grown in the cooler, dry season. The Dark Angel® Series contains small plants that are perfect for containers and space-limited borders.
