DAHLIA 'Harlequin Mix'

Image of Dahlia 'Harlequin Mix'

Syngenta

Family

Asteraceae

Botanical Name

DAHLIA 'Harlequin Mix'

Plant Common Name

Collarette Dahlias, Dahlia, Harlequin Mixed Dahlias

General Description

This collection of compact, colorful mixed collarette dahlias are high-performance bedding plants for sun. Dahlias in the 'Harlequin Mix' are herbaceous warm season tender perennials with bulbous underground tubers. Their coarsely toothed compound leaves are rich green and moderately glossy. The flowers are medium-sized and have a single layer of outer ray petals and a shorter burst of inner petals that surround the eye. The long-lasting blooms are bicolored or solid and come in shades of white, yellow, red, pink, orange or violet-pink. The old buds should be removed to encourage continued flowering.

Dahlias prefer full to partial sun and well-drained, fertile soil. They bloom and grow most happily when nights are comfortably cool and days warm and sunny. Most hybrid dahlias are grown from divisions and cuttings, but those in the 'Harlequin Mix' are grown from seed, which is great news for home growers. Dahlias are frost sensitive, but their tuberous roots can be lifted and overwintered in cool dry locations where winters are harsh. In hot, humid subtropical regions dahlias are best grown as bedding plants in the late fall and winter.

These easy compact dahlias have 101 gardens uses. They are great for cutting, containers, sunny borders, edging and are very attractive to butterflies.
