DAHLIA 'Karma Royal Sea'( KARMA ROYAL, KARMA SERIES) PP18440
Dahlia, Decorative Dahlia, Karma Royal Sea Dahlia
This entry has yet to be reviewed and approved by L2G editors.
Karma Royal Sea dahlia's tall, sturdy herbaceous stems are accented by large deep violet-red blossoms that are superb cutflowers. This hybrid tender perennial with bulbous underground tubers produces nearly evergreen foliage, which is comprised of compound leaves with leaflets that are oval, pointed and have toothed margins. When the weather is warm it will produce doubled, decorative-type flowers of a deep red to deep violet-red. It is advantageous to remove the old buds from spent flowers to encourage continued flowering.
Dahlias prefer well-drained, fertile soil and full to partial sun. The most beautiful flowers occur when nights are comfortably cool and days warm and sunny. Cultivars are often grown from divisions of tuberous roots and cuttings to preserve their unique characteristics, or grown from seed to create new, interesting colored or shaped flowerheads. All dahlias are cold sensitive and their tuberous roots should be lifted and overwintered in cool dry locations where winters are harsh. In hot, humid subtropical regions the dahlia is best grown in the late fall and winter with the start of the dry season.
