DAHLIA( KARMA SERIES)
Dahlia, Karma Series Dahlias
Dahlias in the Karma Series have long stems and large blooms that are perfect for cutting. They’ve bushy habits, lush green foliage, and large, fully double flowers that are either formal decorative or cactus-types. The blooms come in an array of exciting bright colors.
These warm season herbaceous tender perennials grow from bulbous underground tubers and have rich green compound leaves with toothed margins. The colorful flowers appear continuously and are attractive to bees and butterflies. Remove the old buds from spent flowers to encourage heavier flowering.
Dahlias prefer well-drained, fertile soil and full to partial sun. Ideally, night temperatures should be comfortably cool, and days should lack overbearing humidity. Most hybrids are propagated from divisions or root cuttings to preserve their unique characteristics. In colder regions, plant starts after the danger of frost has passed. In frost free zones, they can be planted in fall for continuous winter color. Dahlias are cold sensitive and their tuberous roots should be lifted and overwintered in a cool dry location, where not hardy.
Tall, large-flowered dahlias are unsurpassed for cutting, but the heads are heavy and can take a real beating in heavy rain and high wind. It’s best to stake them to support both the plants and blooms.
