DAHLIA 'Karma Thalia'( KARMA SERIES) PP11406
Dahlia, Karma Thalia Dahlia, Small Decorative Dahlia
The formal decorative, almost waterlily-form blooms of ‘Karma Thalia’ are vibrant violet-red with hints of orange-yellow deep in their interior. The tall plants are robust and have long, strong, red stems ideal for cutting.
This warm season herbaceous tender perennial grows from bulbous underground tubers and has a bushy habit. Its lush compound leaves are rich green with toothed margins. The colorful flowers appear continuously and are attractive to bees and butterflies. Remove the old buds from spent flowers to encourage heavier flowering.
Dahlias prefer well-drained, fertile soil and full to partial sun. Ideally, night temperatures should be comfortably cool, and days should lack overbearing humidity. Most hybrids are propagated from divisions or root cuttings to preserve their unique characteristics. In colder regions, plant starts after the danger of frost has passed. In frost free zones, they can be planted in fall for continuous winter color. Dahlias are cold sensitive and their tuberous roots should be lifted and overwintered in a cool dry location, where not hardy.
Tall, large-flowered dahlias are unsurpassed for cutting, but the heads are heavy and can take a real beating in heavy rain and high wind. It’s best to stake them to support both the plants and blooms.
