DAHLIA 'Knockout'( MYSTIC ILLUSION, MYSTIC SERIES) PP18339
Dahlia, Decorative Dahlia, Mystic Illusion Dahlia
This entry has yet to be reviewed and approved by L2G editors.
A half-hardy hybrid dahlia developed in New Zealand, Mystic Illusion dahlia ('Knockout') produces bright lemony yellow, single-form flowers and black-burgundy leaves with bluntly jagged edges. Plants are well-branched, forming a compact, upright oval silhouette that does not required staking. Each flower displays eight petals surrounding a small dark reddish brown center edged with orange stamens.
Few tender perennials beat dahlias as everblooming warm-season bedding plants and cut flowers. These herbaceous tender perennials have bulbous underground tubers. The blooms are cheerfully bright and long-lasting. Cutting off spent flowers encourages continued flower production on 'Knockout'.
Mystic Series dahlias grow best in well-drained, fertile soil and full to partial sun. In cold winter regions, plant tubers after the danger of frost has passed. In frost-free subtropical areas, they can be planted in fall for continuous winter color. Dahlias are cold sensitive and their tuberous roots should be lifted and overwintered in cool dry locations where not hardy. Grow them in containers and as bedding plants when days are sunny and warm and the nights are comfortably cool.
