Botanical Name

DELPHINIUM 'Magic Fountains Cherry Blossom'( MAGIC FOUNTAINS SERIES)

Plant Common Name

Delphinium, Larkspur, Magic Fountain Cherry Delphinium

General Description

Perfect for smaller gardens, this member of the Magic Fountains series was bred for its floriferous nature and dwarf size. Much shorter in stature than typical tall-growing delphiniums, ‘Magic Fountains Cherry Blossom’ bears dense spires of soft, lavender-pink flowers in late spring through early summer. Its semi-double blossoms are decorated with small white “bees”, or central tufts of stamens. They rise on sturdy stems from vigorous mounds of deeply-lobed, rich green foliage, and are visited by hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. Unlike their taller counterparts, the stems of Magic Fountain Series hybrids do not usually require staking.

Delphiniums prefer full sun and moist, fertile, well-drained, slightly alkaline soil. Thriving in areas with cool to moderate summer weather, they falter when exposed to very hot temperatures. Taller varieties may require staking to avoid toppling, and windy sites should be avoided. After the flowers fade, promptly cut back the stems to encourage a second show of flowers in autumn. Monitor closely for slugs and snails in spring, as these can damage new growth.

The beautiful colors and striking vertical habit of delphiniums add drama to mixed beds and borders. Their gorgeous blooms also make outstanding cut flowers. Often short-lived, these perennials are frequently treated as annuals or biennials, particularly in areas with long, hot summers.
