DELPHINIUM 'Summer Skies'( SUMMER SERIES)
Delphinium, Larkspur, Pacific Giant Summer Skies Larkspur
The diminutive size and floriferous nature of delphinium 'Summer Skies' make this sweet garden perennial especially desirable. From early to midsummer it produces short, sturdy, well-branched stems covered generously with single, pale blue flowers. The spurred, five-petaled blooms appear above low mounds of rich green, deeply divided foliage, and may be visited by bees and butterflies.
Plant ‘Summer Skies’ in full sun and moist, fertile, well-drained, slightly alkaline soil. As with other delphiniums, it thrives in areas with cool to moderate summer weather, and may falter when exposed to very hot temperatures. After the flowers fade, promptly cut back the stems to encourage continued reblooming. Monitor closely for slugs and snails in spring, as these can damage new growth.
The short stature and long-blooming habit of this outstanding hybrid make it perfect for containers or the front of mixed beds and borders. Its lovely blooms also make outstanding cut flowers. Often short-lived, this perennial may be treated as an annual or biennial, particularly in areas with long, hot summers.
