DEUTZIA gracilis
Slender Deutzia
Fragrant white blossoms of the slender deutzia add a delicate display to the garden in late spring. A compact, upright, rounded deciduous shrub native to Japan, it has slender, dull green leaves. In late spring and early summer it bears upright clusters of white, star-shaped flowers with a honey-like scent. In autumn the foliage can become burgundy.
A preferred location for the slender deutzia is in full sun to light shade and well-drained, humus-rich soil. This shrub works well in mixed borders, groupings in a large foundation bed and as a tall, billowy groundcover. Selection 'Nikko' is particularly lower growing and well suited for smaller garden spaces and applications.
