DIANTHUS barbatus( BARBARINI™ FORMULA MIX, BARBARINI™ SERIES)
Barbarini™ Mix Sweet William, Sweet William
Offering a new take on an old favorite, sweet william in the Barbarini™ Series are distinguished by their compact habit and ability to bloom the first year from seed. This formula mixture includes an array of solid and bicolor flowers in shades of white, pink, lavender, red and purple. The fringed, fragrant blooms are borne in large clusters on short, sturdy stems from late spring through midsummer. They rise amid tufts of narrow, deep green foliage, and are visited by bees and butterflies.
Sweet william is a short-lived perennial which is commonly treated as an annual or biennial. Originally native to Europe, this cottage garden classic self-sows readily to form charming colonies. Plant it in full to part sun and well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil. Prompt removal of spent flower stems encourages prolonged bloom display. All members of the Barbarini™ Series are terrific for containers or massing at the front of mixed beds and borders.
