Family

Caryophyllaceae

Botanical Name

DIANTHUS barbatus( BARBARINI™ WHITE, BARBARINI™ SERIES)

Plant Common Name

Barbarini™ White Sweet William, Sweet William

General Description

A new take on an old favorite, sweet william Barbarini™ White is distinguished by its compact habit and ability to bloom the first year from seed. Its large, fragrant clusters of fringed, pure white flowers bloom on short, sturdy stems from late spring through midsummer. They rise amid tufts of narrow, deep green foliage, and are visited by bees and butterflies.

Sweet william is a short-lived perennial which is commonly treated as an annual or biennial. Originally native to Europe, this cottage garden classic self-sows readily to form charming colonies. Plant it in full to part sun and well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil. Prompt removal of spent flower stems encourages prolonged bloom display. Barbarini™ White is a fine choice for containers or massing at the front of mixed beds and borders.
