DIANTHUS caryophyllus 'Grenadin Mix'( GRENADIN SERIES)
Carnation, Grenadin Mix Carnation
Blooming in numerous solid and bicolor shades of red, pink, pale yellow and white, ‘Grenadin Mix’ border pinks comprise a balanced mixture of colors from the compact-growing Grenadin Series. The double, clove-scented blossoms are displayed profusely on slender, sturdy stems from late spring through midsummer. They rise from evergreen tufts of linear, grasslike, blue-green foliage, and may attract bees and butterflies.
Long valued for their showy, sweetly fragrant flowers, border pinks are descended from the Mediterranean species Dianthus caryophyllus. These perennials thrive in full to part sun and well-drained neutral to alkaline soil. Performing best in areas with cool summers, they benefit from additional shade where summer temperatures are very hot. Regular removal of faded flower stems encourages heavier reblooming. Use them in rock gardens, containers or well-drained mixed beds and borders. Their lovely blossoms also make excellent, long lasting cut flowers.
