DIANTHUS caryophyllus 'Knight Mix'
Carnation, Knight Mix Carnation
Blooming in shades of red, pink, pale yellow and white, ‘Knight Mix’ border carnations comprise a balanced mixture of colors from the compact-growing Knight Series. The double, clove-scented blossoms are displayed profusely on short, sturdy stems from late spring through midsummer. They rise from evergreen tufts of linear, grasslike, blue-green foliage, and may attract bees and butterflies.
Long valued for their colorful, sweetly fragrant flowers, border pinks are descended from an evergreen species native to the Mediterranean. These herbaceous perennials thrive in full to part sun and well-drained neutral to alkaline soil. Performing best in areas with cool summers, they benefit from additional shade where summer temperatures are very hot. Regular removal of faded flower stems encourages heavier reblooming. Use border pinks in rock gardens, containers or well-drained mixed beds and borders. Their lovely blossoms also make excellent, long lasting cut flowers.
