DIANTHUS chinensis 'Corona Cherry Magic'
China Pink, Corona™ Cherry Magic Pink
Winner of the All-America Selections award in 2003, ‘Corona Cherry Magic’ stands out with its striking, bicolor flowers displayed on compact plants in summer. Uniquely variable, the blossoms appear in endless, shifting combinations of pale pink and deep rose-red, and may be solid, streaked, or light with a darker eye. The unusually large flowers are borne profusely atop low, bushy mounds of linear, grasslike foliage from late spring throughout summer, and may attract bees and butterflies.
Derived from a short-lived perennial species native to China, ‘Corona Cherry Magic’ is commonly sold and treated as an annual. Plant it in full to part sun and fertile, well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil. Avoid soggy conditions and overwatering, as these may cause stem and root decay. Regular removal of faded flower stems encourages heaviest reblooming. This outstanding hybrid makes a fine bedding annual, and is a delightful addition to containers or mixed beds and borders.
