Family

Caryophyllaceae

Botanical Name

DIANTHUS 'Devon Xera'( FIRE STAR, STAR SERIES) PP14895

Plant Common Name

Cheddar Pinks, Five Star Cheddar Pinks

General Description

The Star Series dianthus are hybrid perennials selected for their compact mounded habit, blue-green leaves, and brilliantly colored, fragrant flowers. The cultivar 'Devon Starling' (Shooting Star) bears bright purple flowers with plum-purple central halos. Flowering begins and is heaviest in late spring but may continue sporadically through summer if spent blooms are removed.

Like most Dianthus, this selection likes sun and well-drained, slightly alkaline soil. It offers better vigor and disease resistance than many traditional cultivars of Dianthus. Its compact size and bold color make ‘Devon Starling’ an ideal choice for rock gardens, borders, or containers such as window boxes.
