Family

Caryophyllaceae

Botanical Name

DIANTHUS 'Valda Louise'( ROSY CHEEKS, DEVON COTTAGE™ SERIES) PP14045

Plant Common Name

Dianthus, Rosy Cheeks Pinks

General Description

The Devon Cottage™ Series dianthus are semi-evergreen, cushion-forming, hybrid perennials closely allied to the Dianthus Allwoodii hybrids, which derive from crosses between Dianthus pulmarius (cottage pink) and perpetual-flowering carnations. Dianthus ‘Valda Louise’, also known as Rosy Cheeks, bears many clove-scented, ruffled, double, rosy-pink flowers from early to mid-summer (or later with deadheading) above mounds of grassy, blue-green leaves. The flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Preferring full sun and well-drained, neutral soil, it works well in containers or sunny borders, or as an annual north of its hardiness range. It needs division every 2 or 3 years to maintain its vigor.
