Family

Scrophulariaceae

Botanical Name

DIGITALIS grandiflora 'Carillion'

Plant Common Name

Carillion Yellow Foxglove, Yellow Foxglove

General Description

Yellow foxglove is native to southern Europe, Siberia and Turkey. The cultivar ‘Carillion’ is a biennial or short-lived perennial dwarf selection loved for its spring to summer flower spikes of pendulous pale yellow flowers which are tubular and marked with brown on the inside. Narrow-leaved stems rise above the mound of medium green foliage. The leaves are oval to lance-shaped, soft and alternate on the flower stems. Both stems and leaves are softly fuzzy. The fruit is a capsule filled with seeds. Yellow foxglove self-seeds and new plants sprout in the same area as the original plant.

Plant yellow foxglove in a sunny spot with fertile well-drained soil. However, this foxglove will tolerate a bit shade. Good moisture or irrigation and organically rich soils produce the best growth. Deadhead the old flower spikes to encourage re-blooming. Yellow foxglove ‘Carillion’ is a good plant for cutting gardens, containers, the front of boarders and for woodland and naturalized gardens.
