Terra Nova Nurseries, Inc.

Family

Asteraceae

Botanical Name

ECHINACEA purpurea 'Green Eyes' PP17172

Plant Common Name

Eastern Purple Coneflower, Green Eyes Coneflower, Purple Coneflower

General Description

The large, fragrant, light violet-pink blooms of 'Green Eyes' are punctuated by bi-colored cones that are orange with virulent green centers. As the flowers age, the large cones transition to solid orange. This fine introduction also boasts an upright, vigorous habit.

Coneflower is a dependable garden staple that is happiest when planted in sites with full sun and well-drained, moderately fertile garden soil. It self-sows freely and will sometimes flower in the first year from seed. The seedlings can be highly variable, and those of most named cultivars, like 'Green Eyes', will not grow true from seed.

This carefree native is an excellent choice for perennial gardens, mixed borders or wildflower plantings. Coneflowers also attract butterflies, make great long-lasting cutflowers and are not favored by deer.
