General Description

Compact in size with an adundance of rosy pink flowers across the summer, the Minstral purple coneflower resulted from a mutation off of 'Kim's Knee High'. Well-branching, 'Minstral' produces more flowers than its parent, forming flowers of slight fragrance in early summer onwards. The petals are a deep pinkish rose and surround a bronze-orange cone. If the old flowers are promptly cut away, or deadheaded, additional flowering occurs and can be extended well into late summer or early autumn.

Purple coneflower is happiest when planted in sites with full sun and well-drained moderately fertile garden soil; do not worry about fertilizing for best flowering. The blooms make great cutflowers, attract butterflies, and the dry seedheads feed seed-eating birds in winter. Even better, deer don't munch on it in the garden. It’s a tough, versatile perennial perfect for well-tended borders and wildflower plantings alike.
