General Description

The vigorous, upright flowering 'Tomato Soup' has bright red blossoms with red-brown center cones that attract butterflies to the flowers and small songbirds to its seeds. The petals on the tennis ball-sized flowers are narrow, and thus makes it look like a robust red-orange daisy. This was a selected seedling developed by Terra Nova Nurseries of Canby, Oregon.

Coneflowers grow best full to partial sun and rich to average soil with good drainage. They are not overly water thirsty, but do check to make sure the soil is never too dry. Deadheading spent flowers keeps plants looking clean and attractive and will encourage continued flowering—though it is nice to leave a few seedheads for the birds. Plants will self-sow.

All Tomato Soup coneflowers attract bees and butterflies and provide seeds for hungry birds in fall and winter. They make welcome additions to sunny perennial borders, meadows or butterfly gardens.
