EUCOMIS bicolor
King's Flower, Pineapple Lily
Named for its pineapple-like, bract-crested flower spikes, this summer-flowering perennial bulb is native to South Africa. The spires of yellow-green, purple-edged flowers appear in summer above a lush clump of handsome, strap-like, light-green leaves.
This surprisingly hardy plant does well in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. It likes dryish conditions during its winter dormant period. Grow in containers or mixed borders or for cut flowers.
