Botanical Name
EUONYMUS kiautschovicus
Plant Common Name
Creeping Strawberry Bush, Spreading Euonymus
General Description
This underused large semi-evergreen shrub is a vigorous tough plant for the landscape. It is an adaptable shrub that's found in a wide range of habitats across its country of origin, China.
The glossy leaves are oblong, deep green and densely cover the broad rounded shrubs. In summer many clusters of small creamy green flowers appear, which develop into pink fruits that open to show bright orange arils in fall.
Provide spreading euonymus a sunny location with well-drained average soil. Prune as needed to keep plants from becoming rangy. The winter foliage may suffer burn from harsh cold, wind and sun. This shrub is ideal for hedges or foundations and offers a solid green backdrop for colorful seasonal flowers.
There are several cultivars in the trade to include the hardy, evergreen 'Manhattan', which has a neat rounded form, and the pretty compact 'Jewel.'
