Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
Mediterranean Spurge, Upright Myrtle Spurge
Native to Iran, Morocco and the Mediterranean region of Europe, this beautiful spurge offers exceptional color and interest for gardens in dry climates. Its thick, fleshy, upright to arching stems are encircled with oval, pointed, blue-green foliage which remains evergreen to semi-evergreen in winter. Large, rounded, bright yellow flower clusters appear at the ends of the stems from spring to early summer. These are actually composed of colorful bracts surrounding small, less conspicuous flowers.
Provide Mediterranean spurge with full sun and very well-drained soil of average to modest fertility. Wet or poorly drained conditions should be avoided. After flowering, the stems may be cut to the ground to rejuvenate new growth. This plant is ideal for rock gardens and well-drained mixed borders.
