Family

Poaceae

Botanical Name

FESTUCA quadriflora

Plant Common Name

Four-leaved Fescue

General Description

Four leafed fescue is a perennial, tufted grass used as an ornamental grass. It is native to Europe. The leaves are short, fine in texture, linear to thread-like, blue green to yellow in color and rough to the touch. The flowers are produced on narrow, branched spikelets and are green. The flower spikes are held well above the foliage and produced in summer.

Four leafed fescue is a cool-season grass and can be short-lived. It prefers full sun to part sun locations with moist, well-drained soil, but has moderate drought tolerance and better heat tolerance than some of the other fescues. Little pruning other than removal of the dead foliage in the spring is required. Divide as needed. Use four leafed fescue for edging, groundcover and rock gardens.
