Garden strawberries are hybrid perennials prized for their sweet, aromatic red fruit. Fragoo™ strawberries are seed-propagated varieties that provide a non-stop display of attractive flowers, foliage, and fruits. They go from seed to flower in about 75 days. These "day-neutral" strawberries were introduced by Syngenta Horticultural Services, Lisle, Illinois.
Like most garden strawberries, these cultivars spread by runners to form expanding mats of three-lobed leaves. They produces conspicuous pink or white blooms throughout the growing season (pausing only for hot spells). The flowers ripen to small conical red berries, which are good for fresh eating. These varieties flower and fruit year-round in mild climates.
Garden strawberries thrive in full sun and moderately fertile, moist, acidic to neutral soil. Fragoo™ strawberries work well as container and groundcover plants. They are vulnerable to numerous pests and diseases, which should be monitored and controlled if necessary.
