GAILLARDIA x grandiflora 'Amber Wheels'
Amber Wheels Blanketflower, Perennial Blanketflower
Commonly known as blanketflower, Gaillardia x grandiflora is a hybrid of the North American natives Gaillardia aristata and Gaillardia pulchella. This vigorous, long-blooming, hardy perennial is both heat-loving and drought tolerant. Plants produce mounds of soft green, slightly hairy foliage in spring. By early summer they begin to produce daisy-like flowers which are attractive to butterflies. Gaillardia ‘Amber Wheels’ has large flowers with frilly, gold-yellow petals and amber centers. Regular deadheading will encourage fresh blooms from summer into late fall.
Blanketflower grows best in full sun and average soil with good drainage. This tough perennial is ideal for mixed sunny borders, butterfly gardens, and for cutting.
