Bijou Butterflies Beeblossom, Lindheimer's Beeblossom
Lindheimer's beeblossom is a long-lived hardy perennial that is native to Texas and Louisiana. Bijou Butterflies has an compact but airy habit and foliage which is rose-purple when it opens maturing to green with a white margin and rosy overtone. Tall stems are purple lined with delicate, open, five petaled flowers with long prominent anthers. These bee and butterfly magnets appear from early summer to fall and are clear rose-pink. Remove spent flower stalks to extend flowering and prevent self-sowing.
Beeblossom is tolerant of drought, heat and humidity. It prefers sites with full sun and average soil with ample drainage. Plant it in sunny perennial borders and wildflower gardens. Beeblossom 'Bijou Butterflies' is a great choice for containers due to its compact growth.
