General Description

These hybrid treasure flowers are early blooming daisies that come in a wide array of colors, most being fantastic bicolors! Sun-loving and easy-to-grow, they open during the day and close at night. Gazania species are African in origin with most species existing in South Africa. All are low-growing perennials that thrive in rocky, open areas where growing temperatures are relatively mild.

Kiss gazanias have dense rosettes of lance-shaped leaves with coarsely lobed or toothed edges. The evergreen leaves may be deep green or gray-green. The large daisy flowers have leafless stems and rise from the center of the rosettes in spring or summer, though they can bloom at any time of year if growing conditions are favorable. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering.

Hybrid gazanias thrive in full sun and well-drained soil with a neutral pH. They tend to grow poorly if subjected to high heat and humidity. Easily started from seed, gazanias are often grown as annuals where tender. Plants may self-sow where hardy. They look and grow best along border edges, containers or rockeries.
