Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
GERANIUM sanguineum 'Shepherd's Warning'
Blood cranesbill is a tough, long-blooming, low-growing herbaceous perennial from Europe and northern Turkey. One of the most compact selections, 'Shepherd's Warning' bears a profusion of glowing rose-pink flowers in late spring and early summer, with sparser repeat bloom from midsummer into autumn. The dainty, deeply lobed leaves turn red in fall. Plants spread slowly by short fleshy underground rhizomes to form rounded hummocks.
This beautiful, long-lived, drought-tolerant perennial does best in fertile well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. It is ideal for embankments, walls, rock gardens, woodland edges, and other relatively dry, sunny sites. Self-sowing sometimes occurs, but not alarmingly so.
