Family

Rosaceae

Botanical Name

GEUM 'Mrs J Bradshaw'

Plant Common Name

Avens, Mrs J. Bradshaw Avens

General Description

The avens hybrid Geum ‘Mrs. J. Bradshaw’ is a clumping, herbaceous perennial. The hairy leaves are feather-like or pinnate with scalloped margins. The terminal leaves are very large with heart-shaped bases. Loose, tall flower stalks rise above the foliage from late spring though summer and are topped with brilliant, double to semi-double scarlet to orange blooms. Interesting, fuzzy seed heads follow the blooms in autumn. The cultivar ‘Mrs. J. Bradshaw’ grows true from seed.

Avens ‘Mrs. J. Bradshaw’ prefers cool climates and grows best in full sun, but will take some shade particularly in warmer climates. It is not picky about soil; however, average to moist, well-drained garden loam is best. Deadhead spent flowers quickly to extend the blooming period. Use avens in perennial beds or mixed borders.
