Plant Common Name
Showy Speedwell, Tricolor Hebe
General Description
Tricolor hebe is a New Zealand native plant with a dense, rounded habit and glossy gray-green leaves with white margins and undersides of grayish lavender. In summer, butterflies are attracted to its spikes of small violet-purple flowers. In winter, the leaves also blush purple on leaf undersides.
A drought-tolerant evergreen plant that is useful for a low hedge, the foundation or mixed border, hebe needs an alkaline soil. Plant in full sun and away from drying winter winds.
