Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
HELENIUM 'Helbro'(MARDI GRAS) PP15124
Cheerful, bright flowers cover Mardi Gras from summer to fall. The pretty multicolored daisies of this tough, hardy perennial offer a variable fiesta of red, orange and yellow tones. This Blooms of Bressingham introduction has an upright, spreading habit and strong, well-branched stems that hold up to wind and rain better than standard sneezeweed.
Dark green, lance-shaped leaves provide a nice backdrop for the late season blooms of sneezeweed. Each colorful daisy has a dark center surrounded by fiery petals that are orange-red when they first open and then fade to orange and finally gold, so each plant has multicolored flowers. The blooms attract both bees and butterflies and are followed by dark brown seedheads that provide seed to hungry songbirds. It will bloom over a longer period if its spent flowers are removed.
Plant sneezeweed in full sun for best form and flowering. It will withstand a wide range of soil types as long as they have good drainage. The rich flowers of Mardi Gras add warmth to perennial or wildflower gardens. It mingles nicely with other warm colored perennials and ornamental grasses and its pretty flowers are long-lasting when cut for arrangements.
