Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
Late in the season, the robust sneezeweed ‘Rubinzwerg’ offers lots of warm daisies in shades of burnt red. This upright herbaceous perennial has a slightly spreading habit, and though it is considered compact, it can still become waist high when mature.
Dark green, lance-shaped leaves provide a nice backdrop for the late season blooms of sneezeweed. Each colorful daisy has a dark center surrounded by deep russet red petals. The flowers attract both bees and butterflies and are followed by dark brown seedheads that provide seed to hungry songbirds. It will bloom over a longer period if its spent flowers are removed.
Plant sneezeweed in full sun for best form and flowering. It will withstand a wide range of soil types as long as they have good drainage. The plants may need to be staked. If cut back by half in late spring to early summer, the plants will develop a more compact, well-branched habit and will bloom more. The rich flowers of 'Rubinzwerg' add warmth to perennial or wildflower gardens. It mingles nicely with other warm colored perennials and ornamental grasses and its pretty flowers are long-lasting when cut for arrangements.
