Botanical Name

HELLEBORUS x ericsmithii 'HGC Silvermoon' PP15639

Plant Common Name

Ericsmith's Hellebore, HGC Silvermoon Lenten Rose

General Description

The patented ‘HGC Silvermoon’ is a compact hybrid hellebore with deep green leaves, a neat mounded habit and palest green and ivory flowers with a rose blush. It was bred in a planned breeding program by Joseph Heuger in Glandorf, Germany. Ericsmith's Hellebore is a hybrid of the two hellebore species, Helleborus niger and Helleborus x sternii.

It is a beautiful evergreen perennial that is distinguished by its coarse, leathery, dark green leaves that contrast nicely with its large, green-hued ivory flowers that appear in late winter to early spring. Its new leaves rise from the crown of the plant each spring. Remove the old leaves as they decline. The current year's leaves continue to look nice all season.

Hellebores prefer partial sun to partial shade and fertile soil with good drainage. Plant them in mixed borders or massed as a groundcover for shade. There are health concerns related to this plant. To learn more go to: http://cal.vet.upenn.edu/projects/poison/agbook/hellebor.htm
