HEMEROCALLIS 'Happy Returns'

Image of Hemerocallis 'Happy Returns'

Mark A. Miller

Family

Liliaceae

Botanical Name

HEMEROCALLIS 'Happy Returns'

Plant Common Name

Daylily, Happy Returns Daylily

General Description

Like the ever-popular 'Stella de Oro', this exceptional, dwarf daylily is everblooming and vigorous. It forms neat clumps of bright green strap-like leaves that appear in mid-spring. Its single, lily-like flowers of pale yellow first appear in late spring atop leafless stems. These are mildly fragrant and attractive to many pollinators.

'Happy Returns' is easy to grow if provided full to partial sun and fertile to average, well drained soil. Its clumps slowly spread over time and need to be divided ever two to three years. When foliage begins to look shabby, it is wise to shear it back to allow for a fresh flush of growth. Enjoy this tried and true ornamental in mixed beds and borders, containers and large mass plantings.
