Exquisitely colored in bright red and gold, the Lady Stephanie Victoria Redding daylily flower also looks sculpted because of the ornate ruffles. The daylily is a popular perennial revered for its reliability, ease of growth and floral beauty. In midsummer or slightly later, the hybrid tetraploid ‘Lady Stephanie Victoria Redding’ produces grapefruit-size flowers atop a naked, branching stem called a scape. The six oval, petal-like tepals have gold ruffled edges contrasting the bright red pigments. The flower throat is a contrasting gold to green-yellow. These flowers open in the morning. They arise from clumps of strappy green leaves that die back once fall frosts and freezes return. Each blossom in the bud cluster closes and shrivels up by the time they're 24-hours old. 'Lady Stephanie Victoria Redding' was bred by J. Thomas Polston and introduced in 2007.
Daylilies are clump-forming and spread slowly via rhizomes. The blooms are commonly held in branched clusters on long leafless stems that stand above the foliage. All daylilies are easy to grow if provided full to partial sun and average soil with good drainage. Deciduous daylilies are the hardiest and survive in the coldest reaches of their range; however they may struggle in areas with mild winters. Evergreen types grow well in all but the most tropical regions but require protection where winters are harsh and cold. Their clumps spread over time and may need to be divided every three to four years. After plants bloom, it is wise to shear back their foliage to allow for a fresh flush of growth.
