HEUCHERA 'Alida's Pesto'

Image of Heuchera 'Alida's Pesto'

Family

Saxifragaceae

Botanical Name

HEUCHERA 'Alida's Pesto'

Plant Common Name

Alida's Pesto Coralbells, Coralbells

General Description

The scalloped leaves of Heuchera ‘Alida’s Pesto’ have mint green color with a beautifully cast of mottled white variegation. This hardy herbaceous perennial forms an attractive mound of foliage that is more tolerant of heat and humidity than your average Heuchera. In midsummer, it produces airy panicles of tiny, ruby red flowers. These appear atop wiry stems that stand well above the foliage. They are followed by unappealing, small, brown fruits, so it is best to remove the stems once the blooms have faded.

Heuchera performs best in partial sun or the bright filtered shade of open, wooded landscapes. Excessive heat and sun can cause leaf burn so avoid direct afternoon sun, especially where summers are hot. Fertile, organic-rich soils with average moisture and good drainage are essential for good health. The leaves of alumroot should be cut back in spring to make way for a new flush of foliage. This lovely hybrid adds rich foliar color to container compositions, mixed borders or woodland gardens and makes a fine edging plant or groundcover.

This striking Heuchera lends itself to dramatic garden compositions. It is a stylish choice for containers, mixed borders or woodland gardens and can even be planted as a seasonal groundcover.
