HEUCHERA 'Brownies' PPAF
Alumroot, Brownies Alumroot
Huge leaves in deep shades of minty-chocolate and burgundy are decorated with darker veining, making ‘Brownies’ a special plant for beds and borders. In late spring to early summer, small, creamy, bell-shaped flowers are charmingly displayed on airy panicles atop the rich tapestry of foliage. Developed by French breeder Thierry Delabroye, this Heuchera villosa cross is noted for its heat tolerance, large size and vigor.
Heuchera performs best in partial sun or the bright filtered shade of open, wooded landscapes. Excessive heat and sun can cause leaf burn so avoid direct afternoon sun, especially where summers are hot. Fertile, organic-rich soils with average moisture and good drainage are essential for good health. The leaves of alumroot should be cut back in spring to make way for a new flush of foliage. ‘Brownies’ is a stylish choice for container compositions, mixed borders or woodland gardens, and makes a fine edging plant or groundcover.
