Alumroot, Cappuccino Alumroot
Reminiscent of the delicious coffee beverage for which it is named, the glossy, lobed foliage of Heuchera ‘Cappuccino’ is rich bronze to olive-green on top and velvety burgundy underneath. The leaves form tidy, dense, mounds that look great all season long. Airy panicles of small, creamy, bell-shaped flowers are displayed atop slender, wiry stems in late spring to early summer.
Heuchera performs best in partial sun or the bright filtered shade of open, wooded landscapes. Excessive heat and sun can cause leaf burn so avoid direct afternoon sun, especially where summers are hot. Fertile, organic-rich soils with average moisture and good drainage are essential for good health. The leaves of alumroot should be cut back in spring to make way for a new flush of foliage.
This lovely hybrid adds rich foliar color to container compositions, mixed borders or woodland gardens and makes a fine edging plant or groundcover.
